Although the dynamic capabilities perspective is one of the most prominent theories in the management discipline, remarkable concerns have arisen about the intellectual structure of this perspective’s literature and its field of research. Dispersion and clutter of theoretical foundations, confusing plurality and diversity of conceptualizations, lack of a holistic framework of existing views, disconnected understandings and findings, and lack of coherence in the body of knowledge are instances of these concerns. Accordingly, the current study aims to develop a holistic insight into the topical structure and trend of the field and contribute to addressing the concerns challenging the identity of the literature as a whole unit by comprehensively reviewing the scholarly documents on dynamic capabilities. To this end, the abstracts of 4206 studies published on the dynamic capabilities topic were text-mined using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation algorithm which is the most prevalent technique of topic modeling. The results indicated that the topical structure of the dynamic capabilities field of research consists of 12 dominant topics that are: firm performance, organizational implications, organizational change, theoretical framework, competitive advantage, technological alliance, product/service innovation, innovation performance, knowledge network, international market, information technology, and supply chain. Additionally, temporal analyses revealed that the innovation performance topic can be considered as an emerging theme in the dynamic capabilities field. Also, these analyses confirmed that other topics have had a growing trend over the last years.
